Jashodhara Sen, Assistant Professor at the College of the Arts, School of Theatre and Dance, University of Florida, is a performance historian, director, and dramaturg specialising in South Asian theatre and the diaspora. Her work bridges theatre history, postcolonial and subaltern studies, and autoethnography, advancing cultural sustainability through scholarship and practice. Her research examines the evolution of Bengali performance, jatra, as a culturally embedded enterprise and a provocative theatrical form, socially and politically charged, that fosters grassroots engagement. Her monograph, Intersectionality in ‘Folk’ Performance through Identity and Expression (Springer 2026)examines jatra and its various modalities, with a focus on class and gender dynamics.
