Basabi Roy

Basabi Roy
Dr Basabi Roy is widely known in the academic and performing arts circles as a connoisseur of sorts. Once heading the Department of Bengali in Jadavpur University, Basabi Roy has continued to explore her interest in theatre and Bengali literature through multiple publications on varied subjects. Her seminal work on Khirode Prasad Bidyabinod is a must-read for scholars working on 19th-century drama and theatre. Her other publications include books on Mohit Chattopadhyay and Manoj Mitra.
As the Vice President of NATYA SHODH SANSTHAN, she remains an important resource person to guide students and scholars visiting the Sansthan library. She has been the convenor of several seminars organised by Sansthan and plays a positive role in framing policies for NATYA SHODH SANSTHAN.

Madhuchhanda Chatterjee

Madhuchhanda Chatterjee
Dr Madhuchhanda Chatterjee was a faculty member in the Department of English at Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata. She has authored multiple publications on theatre and literature, which include “Rasa”: Anthology of Performing Arts (2 vols.), Shyamanand Jalan: A Pictorial Tribute, Girish Karnad: In Quest, and Farce and Farceurs, and she edited Panchatantra Tales and Bhagvad Gita (with notes and interpretations).
She has curated the Theatre Museum of NATYA SHODH SANSTHAN and worked extensively in the social development sector. With expertise in arts and culture, she has been a consultant to the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, for Rabindranath Tagore’s 150th birth anniversary and served as the nodal officer for a digitisation project of the Indira Gandhi Centre for the Arts, Government of India. She is the Executive Director of Anamika Kala Sangam, Kolkata, and serves on its editorial board.

Ramgopal Bagla

Ramgopal Bagla
Ramgopal Bagla is a founder member of NatyaShodh and currently oversees its Heritage Library. With a background in business, he was also a coffee planter and has maintained a longstanding association with theatre.
He has been actively involved with Hindi theatrical groups such as Anamika and Proscenium Art Theatre. In addition, he has authored a Hindi book offering a modern interpretation of the Ramayana.
He brings a valuable blend of organisational expertise and cultural engagement to the development of the Heritage Library.

Chhanda Samaddar

Chhanda Samaddar
Chhanda Samaddar is an experienced librarian at NATYA SHODH SANSTHAN, with over 34 years of dedicated service. She holds a Master’s degree from Jadavpur University and a Bachelor of Education from Visva-Bharati University. She has contributed to several notable periodical publications in respected journals. Her work focuses on curating, preserving, and facilitating access to knowledge and archival resources.

Krishna Mukherjee

Krishna Mukherjee
Krishna Mukherjee, M.A., B.Ed. (University of Calcutta), oversees the files section at NATYA SHODH SANSTHAN, where she manages the collection and preservation of archival materials on Indian theatre. Her work ensures that valuable resources remain organised, accessible, and well-preserved for research and reference.

Gitashree Dey

Gitashree Dey
Gitashri De has overseen the photography archive of NATYA SHODH SANSTHAN for over three decades. She has been instrumental in the systematic digitisation, organisation, and preservation of a vast collection of archival photographs.
Through her meticulous cataloguing and documentation practices, the archive has been developed into a structured and accessible resource for researchers and practitioners.

Suvro Mazumdar

Suvro Mazumdar
Dr Suvro Mazumder is a theatre research scholar, critic, and audio-visual digital archivist with over two decades of engagement in theatre and performance studies.
He began his professional career with BanglaNatak.com in 2000 and subsequently joined NATYA SHODH SANSTHAN as a Research Scholar, where he was involved in several significant research projects in theatre. A number of these projects have been published as books. He is also a member of the Executive Committee, at the initiative of its founder-director, Pratibha Agrawal.
Between 1995 and 2022, he was actively engaged as a drama critic, contributing to various newspapers, theatre journals, and edited volumes. His scholarly and critical work has been recognized with several honours.
He currently works as an Audio-Visual Digital Archivist, with a focus on the in-house digitization, restoration, and preservation of archival materials, contributing to their long-term accessibility for research and documentation.

Projesh Sengupta

Projesh Sengupta
Projesh Sengupta, MPhil from the Drama Department of Rabindra Bharati University, has been working in the Audio section, Cover File, Library Section (including work of documentation) as a research scholar at NATYA SHODH SANSTHAN since January 2014. He is also a Presenter of the Theatre museum of Sansthan. He is also involved with theatre and audio acting, recitation, play writing and theatre cinematography and essay writing.

Sanjay Sinha
Office Secretary
Sanjay Sinha
Sanjay Sinha functions as the Office Secretary of NATYA SHODH SANSTHAN.
A graduate with Honours in Hindi literature, Sanjay holds a Certificate in Computer Application.
From his joining Sansthan in 2011,Sanjay has made himself indispensable,from managing official work to attending to all visitors visiting the archives and the NATYA SHODH SANSTHAN Theatre Museum.
He has rendered invaluable service to the publication section,preparing materials in the pre press stage.
Support Team
The Support Team plays an essential role in the day-to-day functioning and maintenance of the archives, library and theatre museum. Their consistent efforts in handling, organising, and preserving archival materials ensure the smooth operation of these sections and support their ongoing activities.
