Makarand Sathe, who is an architect by profession, has been writing novels, plays, short stories, articles and Marathi theatre history for the last four decades. His work has been translated into many Indian languages like Hindi, Kannada, Bangla and Urdu and into foreign languages like English, French, Russian, etc. He has received many prestigious awards and fellowships, which include the Fellowship by IFA (twice) and the National Fellowship at the Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla. He has written a 3-volume socio-political history of Marathi theatre which has been published in English by Oxford University Press. His other works in English have been published by Penguin, Seagull Books and Speaking Tiger. He has directed many of his own plays, which have been performed at national and international festivals. He has been associated with the Dept. of Performing Arts, University of Pune, as visiting faculty. He lives in Pune.
